WhatsApp Business Verification in the UAE
How Meta business verification works for UAE companies: the trade licence and documents, the steps, why applications are rejected, and how it differs from the blue tick.
Every UAE business that puts WhatsApp onto the Business Platform meets the same step sooner or later: Meta asks it to prove it is a real company. Until it does, it can only start conversations with a small number of people a day, and some features stay out of reach. The process is free and usually straightforward — but it is also where many applications stall for weeks, almost always for the same few reasons.
This guide explains WhatsApp Business verification in the UAE: what Meta is actually verifying, the documents a UAE company typically uses, the steps, the mismatches that cause rejections, and how verification differs from the blue checkmark that people usually mean when they say "verified".
It covers verification only. For the full setup — choosing a route, registering the number, connecting the webhook — see how to set up a WhatsApp AI agent in the UAE.
The short answer
Business verification is a free document check in Meta's Business Manager that proves your company is a legal entity. A UAE company normally uses its trade licence, and the legal name, address and phone number must match what you enter in Business Manager and what your website shows. Start it on the first day of any WhatsApp Business Platform project, because until it is approved you can only start conversations with a limited number of people each day. Verification is not the same as the blue checkmark: that is a separate status Meta grants selectively, and being verified does not guarantee it.
Three different things called "verified"
| What | What it proves | How you get it | What it changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business verification | Your company is a real legal entity | Free document review in Meta Business Manager | Raises your messaging limits and unlocks features; needed for most serious use |
| Display name approval | The name shown on WhatsApp is allowed and relates to your business | Reviewed by Meta when you set or change the display name | Your chosen name appears to customers |
| Blue checkmark (official business account) | Meta considers the business notable or authentic enough for a visible badge | Requested separately; granted selectively, or through Meta's paid verification offering where available | A badge next to your name in chats |
Most businesses need the first two and do not need the third. Customers trust a clear business name, a profile with your address and website, and fast, useful replies far more than a badge.
Why it matters
- Messaging limits. An unverified business can start conversations with only 250 people in 24 hours. Replies to customers who messaged you first do not count, so an inbound-only service can run before verification — but reminders, follow-ups and campaigns hit the ceiling quickly.
- Features and trust. Several platform features and higher limits depend on verification, and it is a prerequisite for requesting the blue checkmark.
- Time. Approval can take from a day to several weeks, longer if documents are rejected. It is usually the slowest step in a WhatsApp project, which is why it should start first.
What you need before you start
- Your trade licence, current and legible, showing the company's legal name and address. Mainland licences and free zone licences are both used.
- A second supporting document if asked — commonly a recent utility bill, bank statement or tax registration certificate showing the same name and address.
- A website on your own domain that shows the business name and contact details, and ideally a privacy policy.
- A business email address on that domain or another way to confirm control, such as a phone call or text to the number on your documents, or domain verification.
- Admin access to your Meta business portfolio (Business Manager), held by someone who will be available while Meta reviews.
Check expiry dates before uploading. An expired licence is one of the most common rejections, and UAE licences renew annually.
The steps
- Open your business portfolio in Meta Business Manager and go to the security or verification section.
- Enter your business details exactly as they appear on your trade licence: legal name, address, phone number and website.
- Upload the trade licence, and a supporting document if requested.
- Confirm a contact method — email on your domain, a phone call or message to the listed number, or domain verification through a DNS record or a tag on your website.
- Submit and wait. Check the status in Business Manager and respond quickly if Meta asks for anything else.
- Once approved, confirm that your WhatsApp Business Account shows the verified status and that your messaging limits have increased.
If you work with a provider or partner, they may start the process for you, but the documents and the approval are always in your own business portfolio. Keep ownership of that portfolio in your company's hands, not a freelancer's or an agency's personal account. When a personal profile that owns a portfolio is restricted, the business assets attached to it can become unreachable — a risk that is far easier to prevent than to undo.
Why applications are rejected
- Name mismatch. The legal name on the licence, the name in Business Manager and the name on the website do not match. UAE licences often carry a full legal form — "L.L.C", "FZ-LLC", "L.L.C-FZ" — while the website shows a trading name. Use the legal name in Business Manager, and make sure the website shows it somewhere, for example in the footer or the contact page.
- Address mismatch. A different address on the licence, the utility bill and the website, often after an office move.
- Phone number that cannot be reached or does not match the documents.
- Expired, cropped, blurred or partly hidden documents.
- A website that does not identify the business — no company name, no contact details, or a page still under construction.
- Documents the reviewers cannot read. If a document is only in Arabic and is rejected, resubmit with a version or a supporting document that shows the details in English as well.
Most rejections are fixed by making one name, one address and one phone number appear consistently across the licence, Business Manager, the website and your listings — which also helps with how the business appears in Google. Display name: getting it approved
- Use your business name or a clear variation of it that customers will recognise.
- Avoid generic words on their own, excessive capitals, emojis, or names of other brands.
- Make sure the name relates visibly to your website and documents.
- Changes are reviewed again, so settle the name before you announce the number.
The blue checkmark
The blue checkmark is the visible badge beside a business name in WhatsApp chats. It is not part of business verification and is not automatic. Meta reviews requests and grants it selectively, generally to businesses that are verified, have used the platform for some time, follow its policies and have an approved display name; Meta has also offered paid verification for some businesses in some markets. The criteria and offerings change, so check Meta's current guidance before applying, and treat the badge as a bonus rather than a requirement.
A note from our own setup
When we connected our own number to the Cloud API in October 2026, verification was the step still pending after everything else was live. The service ran fine for customers who messaged first; only business-initiated messages were capped. That is the normal position for a new account, and it is why we now start verification on day one of every client project.
Checklist
- Trade licence current, legible, legal name and address visible.
- Same legal name, address and phone in Business Manager, on the website and on the documents.
- Website on your own domain with business name, contact details and a privacy policy.
- A way to confirm contact: domain email, reachable phone, or domain verification.
- Business portfolio owned by the company, with at least two admins.
- Display name agreed and matching the brand.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I verify my WhatsApp Business account in the UAE?
Through Meta Business Manager. Enter your business details exactly as they appear on your trade licence, upload the licence (and a supporting document if requested), confirm a contact method such as a domain email, phone or domain verification, and submit. Approval is shown in Business Manager.
What documents does Meta accept for business verification in the UAE?
A UAE company usually uses its trade licence, from the mainland or a free zone. If Meta asks for more, a recent utility bill, bank statement or tax registration certificate showing the same legal name and address is commonly used. Documents must be current, complete and legible.
How long does WhatsApp Business verification take?
Anywhere from a day to several weeks. Rejections for mismatched names, addresses or expired documents add time, so prepare consistent details before submitting and start verification at the beginning of the project.
What happens if my business is not verified?
You can still use the WhatsApp Business Platform, but you can only start conversations with 250 people in 24 hours. Replies to customers who message you first are not limited in the same way, so inbound service can run while verification completes.
Why was my Meta business verification rejected?
Usually because the legal name, address or phone number differs between the trade licence, Business Manager and the website; because a document is expired, cropped or unreadable; or because the website does not clearly identify the business. Make the details consistent everywhere and resubmit.
Is business verification the same as the blue tick?
No. Business verification proves the company is a legal entity and raises messaging limits. The blue checkmark is a separate badge that Meta grants selectively, and being verified does not guarantee it.
How do I get the blue checkmark on WhatsApp Business?
Complete business verification first, use an approved display name, follow WhatsApp's policies and then request it through Meta, or use Meta's paid verification offering where it is available to you. Meta decides; check its current criteria before applying.
Should my agency own our Meta business portfolio?
No. The portfolio, the WhatsApp Business Account and the verification should belong to your company, with at least two of your own staff as admins. Partners can be given access, but ownership should never sit in an outsider's personal account.
